MASAI SWINGS TO VICTORY: Nyali's golfer beats 100 players to land New Year medal

Home club’s Joyce Masai posted a sterling 75 nett to win the January 2017 Medal golf title at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club, in Mombasa, over the weekend.

Playing off handicap 12, Masai rolled seven level pars and played a mixed bogey shots in the rest of the 18 holes for victory in the Division One category. Over 100 ladies took part in the one-day 18-holes event.

“The year has started off well. I just need to train more on my putting ahead of more tournaments,” said Masai.

Club mate handicap 29 Pervis Barnsley won the Division Two medal on 76 nett.

In the Mug section, home club's handicap 10 Brian Bringole posted 71 nett to win in Division One, while Nyali's handicap 17 Aly Jamal, on 70 nett, won the Division Two trophy.

At the par 72 Kiambu course, home club’s handicap 7 David Ndirangu, who had 68 nett, won the year opener, which was sponsored by new board members.

Club mate George Muiruri, playing off handicap 13, was runner-up on 70 nett, same as Ruiru’s handicap 24 M.Nyangi, who was third.

Golf Park's handicap 36 C. Carol, who had 42 points, won the year opener event at the par 72 Limuru course.

Home clubs’ handicap 16 Patrick Mwangi was the runner-up on a countback score of 40 points, same as handicap 21, Alfred Wachira, who was third.

At Vet Lab, home club's handicap 28 Channele Wangari, on 68 nett, won the Sungura Cup qualifying round and Subsidiary event.
