Footballers juggle toilet paper as part of new social distancing challenge in the wake of coronavirus

Montreal Impact midfielder Victor Wanyama has joined in the world social media craze in which footballers of all ages, levels, and nationalities juggle a roll of toilet paper as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

The toilet paper challenge involves juggling a roll of toilet paper for at least 10 times before it can fall on the ground.

With most football matches suspended across the world, Wanyama is the latest player to accept the toilet paper #StayAtHomeChallenge during the coronavirus quarantine.

The #StayAtHomeChallenge is just one-way athletes are trying to stay active and also social distance while the sports world waits on hold.

With no training taking place for teams, Wanyama was challenged by Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy as a way to stay fit.

In a video filmed at home and published on his Instagram account, Wanyama kept it simple with his touches, before kicking the roll away as it trips on the way.

Having taken up the challenge, the 28-year-old nominated his elder brother, former Inter Milan midfielder Mc Donald Mariga, Comedian Daniel Ndambuki, goalkeeper Arnold Origi, Liverpool forward Divock Origi, World marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge and Kenya Sevens speedster Collins Injera to follow suit, along with other local celebrities.

Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga also took the challenge after getting nominated by Kenyan international Eric Johana Omondi.

He then further nominated his colleagues, Joseph Okumu, Kenneth Muguna, Eugine Asike, Abdallah Hassan, Patillah Omotto, Robinson Kamura, Mariko Abwao, Brian Wasiong'o.

COVID-19, has caused the cancellation of sporting events around the world as countries try to quell the spread of the pandemic.

Recently, the Premier League's suspension was extended till April 30, and also both the European Championship and Copa America, which were scheduled for this summer, got postponed to 2021.

With over 242,000 infections and nearly 10,000 deaths worldwide, the epidemic has stunned the world and drawn comparisons with periods such as World War Two, the 2008 financial crisis and the 1918 Spanish flu.
