Our bodies can be affected by certain internal and external changes. These reactions can cause the growth of lumps, which can occur anywhere on the body and some of the common areas you might spot them are on your underarms.

When you first see some lumps on your armpits you might panic because you’re not sure what your body is reacting to.

But in most cases, these lumps are harmless and can easily be treated.

Commonly, lumps vary in size and can come due to allergic reactions, bacterial or fungal infections, lifestyle habits like smoking and they can also come often if you are obese or experiencing underlying medical conditions.

Although not everyone will have the exact same experience when dealing with armpit lumps, there are common ways you can treat them effectively:

Let them go away on their own

If you eat healthy and exercise regularly, you have a better chance of getting rid of the lumps faster. In many cases, you don’t need to do anything extra for them to go away because our bodies are capable of fighting some infections on their own.

You just need to keep the area clean, eat a good amount of fruits and veggies and drink enough water as you observe the area.

Discontinue any irritants

The armpit area is prone to getting lumps as a result of harsh and irritating ingredients found in sprays, deodorants, shaving creams and antiperspirants.

It could be that your body is telling you that it doesn’t like certain ingredients in a product you are using and the best solution is to change to a gentler product that won’t irritate your skin.

You also need to ensure that you are shaving correctly and with a clean, sharp blade to prevent any lumps.

Use a warm compress

A warm compress is something that will help to speed up the healing process. Also, it’s effective in reducing the pain in case your lumps are the painful kind.

To prepare your compress, get a small clean towel and prepare some hot water-not scalding hot water. Dip the towel in a bowl with the hot water, drain the excess water from the towel and place it on the lumps for up to five minutes.

Do this at least twice a day.

Do daily massages

A massage on the affected area is also something that could ease the pain and enhance healing. A good technique that could work is to use your palm on the opposite hand to massage the affected side in an upward motion towards the direction of your neck.

You can apply a bit of pressure but you should adjust until you are comfortable. Massage even twice or thrice a day.

Seek medical advice

Usually, underarm lumps aren’t always a sign of a major issue. However, there are situations where it could be something that needs urgent medical attention.

If you notice some unusual signs like persistent lumps that keep growing in size instead of shrinking, you need to get checked right away for proper treatment.
