Five skin conditions you can treat with aloe vera

Skin Care
Aloe vera can be used to clear common skin conditions

One of the best discoveries I have made in the world of skincare is the use of aloe vera in my night-time routine. It can be found either in plant form or pre-packaged in gel form.

According to Medical News Today, aloe vera has been used to treat various skin conditions for thousands of years. It has antioxidants, vitamins, amino acids and minerals which are beneficial to your skin.

Below are five skin conditions that you can treat with this plant.

1. Hydrate

According to Prevention, aloe vera is made up of 99% water making it ideal for rehydrating your skin without leaving it feeling greasy.

2. Acne

Pimples and blackheads can be a nuisance especially if they are recurring. It contains antibacterial, exfoliating and anti-inflammatory properties which help treat acne. It also unclogs pores thus reducing future breakouts.

You can either use the gel directly from the plant or buy it pre-packaged

3. Sunburn

Even though we have an abundance of melanin, it’s not uncommon for some people to get sunburn especially when you spend the day out in the sun either by the pool or on the beach. The gel will help soothe sunburn and ease the pain. It will also aid in the fast repair of your skin.

4. Eczema

Just as it soothes sunburn, aloe vera helps reduce inflammation caused by common skin conditions like eczema.

5. Anti-aging

Reduced elastin and collagen production are responsible for wrinkles. Aloe vera gel helps stimulate the production of elastin and collagen which will help slow down the aging process.

Before using aloe vera, be sure to do a patch test to make sure you don’t react to it. It is also advisable to consult your doctor prior.
