Wonders of bentonite clay

Skin Care
 Beauty step by step

Natural clays have been used throughout history to help the body get rid of toxins. Even animals instinctively turn to eating clay during times of illness. Bentonite clay is known for its ability to draw out toxins from the skin, and can be used both internally and externally. This clay has a strong negative charge which bonds to the positive charge in toxins. Therefore it absorbs the toxins and expels them from the body.

Bentonite clay has the same effect on the skin; it draws out impurities from the skin tissue. Due to its ability to absorb, the clay helps remove excess sebum from the skin, and to shrink and tighten irritated and enlarged pores, leaving your skin clear and soft.

Bentonite Clay is beneficial for all skin types, especially acne prone skin. If you have dry or mature skin, you may use bentonite once or twice a month. If your skin is prone to breakouts, use it once or twice a week.

You can buy bentonite clay in powder form from most health shops. Here's how to use bentonite clay effectively:

Step 1 – Collect the utensils and ingredients

Use a clean non-metallic spoon and bowl. This could be plastic, wooden, glass, or ceramic. Metal utensils are not recommended as they will cause the clay to lose its effectiveness. You will need 2 teaspoons of bentonite clay, and 2 teaspoons of water or apple cider vinegar (ACV).

Step 2 – Cleanse skin

Wash your face with a mild cleanser and pat dry.

Step 3 – Mix the ingredients

Mix the clay with water and continue to add water until it forms a thick smooth paste that sits well on the face. The mixture has a frothy texture that feels nice when applied.

Step 4 – Apply to the face

Apply to the face using a brush or your fingers and allow to sit for 15 – 20 minutes. Avoid your eyes, nostrils and mouth. Your skin may feel a little dry and tight as it dries.

Step 5 – Rinse off

Rinse thoroughly with warm water. You may use a wash cloth soaked in warm water. Your face may feel tight due to the deep pore cleansing of the clay, but this will disappear within 30 minutes.

Step 6 – Tone

Wipe your face with a mixture of water and ACV. This will help to freshen your skin, and remove any residue of the mask.

Step 7 – Moisturise

Moisturize and enjoy smooth skin.

After just two weeks, you'll notice an improvement in your complexion, with less breakouts and a reduction in the appearance of your pores. This mixture can also be used on eczema and psoriasis. You may use strong green tea or chamomile tea in place of plain water.
