Social media has changed every sphere of our lives. It cuts across different issues like politics, religion, and even relationships now that more people are connecting online.

Besides the fact that people are choosing to meet potential partners online, social media has shaped our expectations when it comes to relationships. We analyze issues like, how soon you should post your partner, how often, what counts as cheating and whether it's actually safe to take your relationship online in the first place.

On the issue of posting your partner online, some people have no problem with it, while others would strongly avoid it.

It may not be wise to do so, but let's look at some of the advantages and disadvantages of opening up your relationship to the online world.

Posting your partner can help you feel secure

Social media might not be one hundred percent real, but it still connects to the real world. Some of your friends are there and your family members as well.

When you're ready to openly post each other, it might give you that sense of security. Some people say that someone who isn't willing to post you might have something to hide and that may be true in a way.

It lets others know you're officially taken

When you're married to the love of your life, you want to let the world know. You'll find yourself bringing up your hubby or wifey in every conversation and even online, it will feel nice showing off that ring on your finger and some wedding photos too.

Once others see that, they will know that you and your partner are a no-go zone. It might not fully keep others from sliding in your DM's but, it lets the whole world know that you're taken.

It exposes your relationship to criticism

In real life, people judge who we are dating or married to. This is amplified when you post each other online because now everyone, including strangers, have an opinion about your relationship.

You can't be sure that everyone who sees you two is truly happy for you. A random comment like 'I didn't expect you two to be a pair' can completely change how you see your relationship.

People will easily notice when you're having issues

Changes in your relationship will be exposed to everyone, which is another reason not to post your relationship.

If you've been posting each other every day but now you've suddenly deleted everything, people will notice that. This is a problem because you will feel like you've unintentionally given people access to your private issues.

It adds unnecessary pressure to your relationship

Posting your private life online can also take away the authenticity from your relationship. If you go somewhere with your bae you will start trying to get that perfect picture and striking caption for Instagram and that pressure doesn't allow you to enjoy quality time together.

You might also subconsciously start pressuring your partner to dress or behave a certain way because the online world is watching. This kind of pressure can be very unhealthy for your relationship.
