South Coast veteran golfer Mitesh Kumar was a happy man after he won the 2016 Chicken run medal in a golf tournament at the par 72 Leisure Lodge resort golf course in Kwale County at the weekend.

Playing off handicap five, the club’s former captain utilised his knowledge of the course to card an excellent 72 nett and emerged the overall winner in the one-day event that attracted 160 golfers from various clubs.

“I played well today, and the course was a bit easy,” said Kumar.

Despite playing six bogey shots in both nines, Kumar’s victory was imminent when he sunk five birdies at the par three-fifth, the par four 17th and the par five 18th holes with an addition of eight level pars.

Club mate Kumar Patel, playing off handicap 25, was second on 78 nett, tying on the same score with third placed handicap 7, Scott Carruthers.

Handicap 10 Stan Kinsh won the Division Three category, while handicap 12 Stephen Gachiu claimed glory in Division Four.

At the Kiambu course, Handicap 11 Njenga Mbugua posted 40 points to win the 2016 Kariuki and Kirika Njug’e Memorial event, beating handicap 28 Nahason Mburu, who was second with a two-point difference.

Joyce Wanjiru, playing off handicap 5, was the Lady winner on 35 points. Handicap 28 G. Ndegwa posted 29 points to lift the youngest talent prize, while handicap 12 Ndiga Kithae, on 34 points, was the Guest winner. Handicap 16 Wanjira Kireri, who had 33 points, won the sponsor’s prize.

At the Thika Sports Club, Linda Kinya lifted the 2016 Stima Sacco title on a count back score of 40 points after tying on same points with J.M.Thairoh, who was the Men winner.

J.W.Kungu posted 39 points to win the Lady prize and Sammy Ndungu, on 38 points, was the guest winner. Timonth Malel, who had 20 points, was the Staff winner. Simon Ngugi lifted the junior prize on 37 points.
