New male contraceptive claims men can turn their sperm off and on at the flick of a switch

It's been nicknamed the 'D*** Click'

With the pill, IUD, diaphragms, cervical caps and the implant, the contraceptive baton has largely been carried by women.

Now, a new type of male contraceptive could be set to revolutionise this.

It's called the Bimek SLV and also goes by the catchier moniker, 'D*** Click.'

The German company behind the D*** Click claims it works in the same a vasectomy does.

The product says it allows men to switch their sperm supply off and on using surgically-inserted valves that were invented by a carpenter, reports attn .

How the valve works

In fact, the D*** Click may even prove to be a better alternative to having a vasectomy as it would eradicate the need to surgically cut the tubes that transport sperm from the testicles to the urethra, known as the vas deferens.

What's more, inserting the valve would only take half an hour .

How it works after the procedure is by physically switching the valve on and off through the scrotum, which would divert the sperm until you flip the switch back.

The switch

There have, however, been health concerns raised.

"My assessment is that implanting the valve could cause scarring where it meets the vas deferens," Wolgang Bühmann, a spokesperson for the Professional Association of German Urologists said.

But a strong argument for the D*** Click is that there would be no need for painful vasectomy reversals, which also have a low success rate.
