The Government of Pakistan has dispatched a team of detectives to Nairobi to investigate the death of senior journalist Arshad Sharif, who was shot dead in what police said was a case of "mistaken identity".

Through its Interior ministry, Pakistan has named the three officers Athar Waheed, Director of Police FIA, Omar Shahid Hamid, Deputy Director-General Intelligence Bureau, and Lieutenant Colonel Saad Ahmed to be the ones to travel to Kenya to investigate shooting.

"In pursuance of Prime Minister's Office's U.O No. 3752/M/SPM/2022, dated October 25, 2022, the team is constituted to ascertain the facts related to the murder of senior journalist Arshad Sharif from Kenya Police and relevant authorities," the statement read in part.

The team will work hand in hand with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Pakistan's High Commission in Nairobi, and is expected to submit its report to the interior division upon completion of probe.

The investigations come at a time when the Independent Policing Oversight Authority, (IPOA) has already sent a team to Kajiado County where, Sharif was shot dead by General Service Unit officers.

The body of Sharif was flown to Islamabad, Pakistan on Tuesday night, and is expected to be buried on Thursday, October 27 in accordance with Islamic rites.
