Former President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi has mourned the passing of veteran Kenyan politician Nicholas Biwott.
In his message of condolences, the former head of state eulogized Biwott as a dedicated public servant, an astute businessman and a philanthropist who initiated community projects to alleviate the suffering of the people of Keiyo whom he represented.
Moi stated that he had known Biwott since the 1950s both being leaders from Rift Valley and described him as a dependable friend whose public service had made an impact to the nation.
He prayed to God to give the family of the late courage to bear their loss.
Biwott, 77, passed on at the Nairobi hospital today, Tuesday, after a long illness. He was reportedly rushed at the facility after falling ill in the morning.
Biwott served the people of Keiyo South Constituency for 28 years as the area MP until December 2007 and was a close confidant of Moi during his long stint at politics.
He was nicknamed the ‘Total Man’ for his unwavering support to Moi's government and the power that he wielded in the former president’s era.
Eulogizing the former minister, Finance Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich also stated that it was a sad day for Kenya.
Rotich said that Kenya had lost a fearless leader who had offered immense service in his long career to the country.
The CS was flanked by leaders from the Rift Valley including Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago, Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter, Energy and Petroleum CS Charles Keter among others.
They were speaking at the Lee Funeral Home.
