A newlywed couple’s honeymoon ended on a sour note when they were whisked out of a five-star hotel in Upper Hill by police after reportedly accruing a bill in excess of Sh800,000 on January 3. Our sources say the groom paid a deposit and promised to clear the balance before the end of his honeymoon.

The couple booked into the hotel on December 27 last year after their wedding and reception on the hotel’s immaculate lawns. According to our sources, guests were treated to pork chops, roast goat meat and chicken. They had ordered five goats that Sh16,000 each.

“The annoying thing is that the bride had so many flippant demands during her stay in the hotel. She was every waiter’s nightmare,” says a staffer who served the couple, adding that waiters laughed for days when it emerged the couple were living large without a coin on them.

Trouble for the couple begun when they were unable to settle the bill as scheduled. Understandably, they were detained by the hotel since they had no cash to pay for food.

The hotel, however, served them a complimentary breakfast on January 3 before they were led out by the police.

When The Nairobian contacted the hotel for comment, the management declined, only saying that they can’t divulge such information.

“Give us a few hours to consult other managers before we decide on whether to give you full details of the incident or not,” said an officer at the hotel. He, however, admitted that the incident did indeed take place and they are currently seeking ways of recovering the money.

Efforts to reach the couple were futile.
