Exams leaks lead to unfair competition

Living

The trend of leaks in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations is not only absurd but also depicts a ragged path the education system of this country has taken.

The care-free manner and attitude in which Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi responded to the exams crisis worsened the situation. One is left wondering whether the docket is really headed by a scholar.

Some of the exam leaks, as shown on social media and other media platforms, happened to be replicas of the actual exams.

Despite calls from some quarters that the exams need to be cancelled and fresh ones administered, the Government seems to be obstinate.

As a result, there will be unfair competition for the candidates who did not access the leaks! In essence, those who had access to the leaks will be awarded unfair grades that may eventually lead to biased placement of degree courses at universities.

In order to ensure a level playing field for all candidates, the Government should have cancelled the 2015 KCSE exams to pave way for forensic investigations to bring to book the culprits.
