Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has asked the Commission for University Education (CUE) to design a curriculum that addresses current challenges facing the country.
Speaking during the opening of Kisii University Campus in Chebara, Murkomen said the numerous programmes currently being taught at various universities across the country do not aptly solve issues like corruption, negative ethnicity, moral decadence and bad governance.
"The higher learning institutions should try and solve modern-day challenges by designing courses to fight societal vices, and help in supporting devolution for better service delivery," noted the senator.
He said the youth should be cultured through programmes that foster high moral standards to ensure the next generation is safeguarded to posterity.
"Managing the youth of our time is the greatest challenge our nation is facing because of the advent of the information age. This has greatly impacted on moral issues and culture," Murkomen added.
On devolution and good governance, the senator said learning institutions should be at the forefront in supporting the new administration structures.
"We expect programmes that will give residents an opportunity to learn about new issues to advance devolution, empower government officials on accountability and prudent resource utilisation," said Murkomen, who is also the Senate devolution chairman.
