Mutua: Some leaders are determined to end my reign

Living

Machakos, Kenya: Governor Alfred Mutua has said some leaders are working round the clock to undermine the county.

He said the county was conceived when retired President Mwai Kibaki signed the instruments of the Constitution during its promulgation at Uhuru Park, but some leaders were working day and night to “strangle the baby”.

“The sad reality is that as some of us are working day and night to take care of the county, some leaders are also determined to kill this baby so our people are relegated to eternal poverty and suffering,” said the governor.

Stern warning

Dr Mutua, who was addressing a special sitting of the county assembly, however warned he would not condone such leaders.

“Let me say we will not let a few people slow down development. Our people were not born to suffer and to remain wretched,” warned the tough-talking governor.

Mutua said his detractors were envious of his development record, which was giving them sleepless nights.

He however reiterated that he was ready to work with all leaders from Ukambani and beyond.

He also admitted that things had not gone as well as he would have wanted as the county governor, adding some of his government officials had performed below par while others were engaged in unscrupulous activities.
