How to choose the right hairspray

Living

If you care about your hair, then hairspray is a must-have. They enhance shine, reduce frizz, promote volume and protect hair from UV rays.  So how do you determine what spray works for you?

Aerosol vs non-aerosol: Aerosol sprays are sealed in a container under pressure, using a release valve to dispense the atomized liquid while, the non-aerosol sprays use springs, valves, and tubes, to aerate and emit the liquid. Aerosols offer a continuous emission of mist, while non-aerosols must be pumped onto the palm before being applied to the hair. Aerosols are ideal for women with thin hair and want to add some volume to it, while non-aerosols are ideal for thick hair.

Formula: Sprays are classified into three types depending on the hold they provide flexible, medium, and maximum. They have the same ingredients; the difference between them is the size of droplets released from the can - the bigger the droplets, the firmer the hold.

Flexible spray offers the least amount of hold, thus it is ideal for daily use to hold curls and waves, while allowing optimal movement.

Medium hold spray is slightly stronger. They offer a hold with minimum stiffness and can keep certain sections of the hair in place. They add volume, and make curls bouncy, creating a natural look for thick and hard to manage hair.

Maximum hold spray is for those seeking a long-lasting hold. It is ideal for up dos that create sleek looks. It is ideal for people with thick hair and for those who want a neater look for longer-hours, like in weddings.
