Caring for permed hair

Living

Before the craze for weaves came about, most women had their hair permed (relaxed). A perm is actually a break from kinky, painful to comb hair. If you have permed hair, here are useful tips for you:

· Relaxers contain harmful chemicals that can damage your hair especially if overused. As such, only retouch the hair growth when it is time for a touch up.

· Ensure that any product you use on your hair is legitimate. There are so many imitations in the market.

· Avoid excessive heat on permed hair; it leads to excessive breakage. If you want to keep your hair straight, simply wrap it.

· Always moisturise your hair to avoid breakage.

· Never over-process your hair when applying chemical. If you want to colour your permed hair, give it a two-week break after relaxing before you apply it; otherwise, your hair will break.

· Many women will want to give their hair a perm-break by braiding it. This is fine but, do not do it too often or too tight. The consequences could be traction alopecia, caused by frequent tight pulling of hair or hair loss.

· Always condition your hair to protect it and use the right products. This is a vital step to proper care for permed hair.

· Keep your hair protected at night by putting on a scarf.
