Ideas for basement parking

Living

Many modern homes have some basement space. Unfortunately, some people ask architects to include this space in their structures but are unsure of how to utilise it. What happens eventually is you are left with an abandoned basement.

Even if the space is cold and crammed with boxes, it has a lot of potential.

With a little creativity, you can turn this under-utilised space into a place you and your family will be eager to send time in.

If the basement is suitable for remodelling, think about the best way to use it that will benefit your entire family. These include:

• Have you been wishing for a home gym? Then your basement space is a perfect spot for it. The best thing is that you only need to do simple décor.

• You might also want to have a home office but don’t have enough space in the rest of the house. You can realise your dream with the basement space. Simply furnish it and you are good to go.

•  How about having a second living room down there, or perhaps a game room where your children can hang out with friends without crowding the house, especially when you have guests around? If you turn it into a second living room, use the same décor principles you use throughout the rest of your home. This ensures that it feels like a part of the main house, rather than just more space that seems to be separate.

• A new laundry room, a pool playing space or even a home bar are all great ideas.

As you make the changes in the utilisation of the space, give the lighting some thought too. You may need a number of light fixtures to make the space enjoyable, especially if it serves as a living space.

Making the basement an extension of your home can be a lot more work than simply redecorating any other room. Maximise space by adding built-in shelves and storage areas.

Remember to keep it simple, inexpensive, but attractive. The good thing is that you will be satisfied with what you eventually see.
