Golden tips for bright eyes

Living

Golden rule for bright eyesThey say that our eyes are the windows to our souls. This is because they display our emotions and individuality. Since the eyes are the focal point of the face; bags, bulges and wrinkles give an individual a tired, sad appearance. How can you bring out the best in your eyes?

Treat your eye area gently:  This is the most delicate part of your face as the skin is thinner and has less moisture. Use a rich moisturising cream that draws in moisture such as shea butter. Slather a generous amount before you sleep to keep your eyes looking their best. Cleanse with care and avoid rubbing the eyes. If you have allergies, use eye-drops and avoid allergens so that you’re not constantly rubbing your eyes. Never sleep with eye make-up; use a gentle remover or some olive oil to take it off.

Drink plenty of water: Water plays a crucial role in maintaining skin elasticity.

Get plenty of rest: Get at least seven or eight hours of sleep as fatigue can cause skin to look pale and gaunt.

Sleep the right way: Puffiness can be caused by an accumulation of fluid in the eye area, therefore, if you have this problem, sleep with your head a little higher to avoid this. Ensure your neck is properly supported as very high pillows may interfere with your body’s alignment.

Reduce stress: Some say that dark circles are encouraged by stress, that it can cause an increase in melanin production under the eyes. If you cannot avoid stress, then manage it by exercising and taking enough vitamins.

Wear sunglasses:  Wear good sunglasses when out in the sun or glare. Sunglasses, in addition to saving your eyes, also protect the delicate skin around your eyes from the sun’s rays. Sunglasses also help to lessen squinting. The combination of frequent squinting and direct sunlight on the skin quickly ages skin.

Sunscreen: Use a good sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 15.

Splash with cold water: Reduce puffy eyes by splashing with cold water or applying a cold compress (ice cubes in a washcloth) for 15 seconds on, and then 15 seconds off.

Moisturise:  Always use your ring finger to apply moisturiser or concealer to the eye area. It puts the least amount of pressure on the skin.
