Living

The biggest gospel show that brings together stars of yester years and new megastars on the same stage takes place on December 18 at Kenyatta International Conference Centre to usher in the festive season. The extravaganza which will see singer Rufftone launch his latest album, will bring together the Kassangas, Mary Wambui of Ahadi Ya Bwana , Mary Atieno of Adamu na Hawa fame, Hellen Akoth, Jemimah Thiong’o, Reuben Kigame and Arusha Town Choir of the Mzigo Wake Mwenyewe fame among others. New school gospel singers include Rufftone, Daddy Owen, Ben Githae, Emmy Kosgey, Kambua, Eunice Njeri, Dunco, Jimmie Gait and all Lampstand Records artistes. The show will also celebrate your favourite magazine’s seventh birthday. The show is organised with Lampstand Records and Flame Entertainment in conjunction with The Standard Group.

Eysha, Dice band at Castro’s

For those who love Eysha and the Dice band, Castro’s Pub at China Centre on Ngong Road is the place to be every Wednesday to catch these fast rising artistes live on stage.

Greenfest on cards

The Standard Group, Nema, Beryll Foundation and Flame Entertainment have joined hands to declare December a Green month. A three-day show dubbed The New Year’s Green extravaganza at Splash Waterworld is in the offing featuring hip-hop, reggae, ragga and afro-fusion musicians such as Abbi Nyinza, Kidum, Nina Ogot, Sauti Sol and George Mutinda among others. The show will includea green exhibition and puppetry and runs from December 31 to January 2 next year.

Superstars for MAMAs

The 2010 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) gala is just around the corner and four more awesome artistes are set to perform in Africa’s most exciting music event. USA hip-hop star Rick Ross, Kenya’s P-Unit, South Africa’s Jozi and Nigeria’s Wande Coal will join previously announced performers DJ Arafat (Ivory Coast), 2Face (Nigeria), Daddy Owen (Kenya), Banky W (Nigeria), Fally Ipupa (DRC), Teargas (South Africa) and Cabo Snoop (Angola).

Making their first appearance at the MAMAs are Best Group contenders P-Unit, who go head to head against Uganda’s Radio & Weasel, South Africa’s Teargas and multiple MAMA winners P-Square of Nigeria. The Airtel sponsored event takes place next Saturday.

Kidum goes to the beach

High-flying Kenyan-based Burundian singer Kidum will be headed to Mombasa next weekend for a beach concert. The show, dubbed ‘Kidum goes to the beach’, is his first major gig at the Coast in a long time and features five bands among them Cebrice, Cellephone and the popular Bodaboda band. The extravaganza, organised by Xtreme Entertainment, will be held at Mombasa Beach Hotel. Kidum is currently riding on his popular hits Haturudi and Nitafanya.

Battle of the Choirs

The Battle of the choirs, a major gospel extravaganza is currently going on at Milele Beach Hotel, Mombasa. The competition, which incorporates singing groups from churches from the Coast, is now on its quarterfinals stage. The weekly hits are held every Sunday at the hotel. Winners will clinch a recording deal while the runners up stand to win other fabulous prizes.

Party at Sin Bin

Sin Bin Sports Club and Lounge located in Nairobi’s South B opens doors to revellers this weekend with a major music mix on stake. The joint, which has lately become the home for celebrities, boasts of three resident deejays and state-of-the art sound system. Come and enjoy your favourite sport on big screens. Entry is free.

Choices theme nights

Choices on Baricho Road will tonight present Party Night. On the decks will be DJ Morris spinning the best of old skool mix of soul, hip-hop, rhumba and local hits. Do not miss Thurdays super show as Juma Tutu band brings the roof down. Tomorrow is Club Mix with DJ Shady while on Sunday, celebrated rocker DJ Jack is on the wheels of steel.

Lost in the 90s at Galileo

The party goes to Galileo Lounge, Westlands, tonight where Capital FM’s DJ Adrian will kick off the weekend with ‘Lost in the 90s’. The early patrons will have a chance to sample Johnnie Walker Black Label at the VIP Lounge. The next 100 will get free shots of Tequila or Sambuca each. The party kicks off at 7pm. Galileo combines great ambiance, privacy and awesome entertainment.

Euro pub mania

If you love good mix of music then make your way to the funky sports bar, Euro Pub at Bestlady Centre on Ronald Ngala Street. The resident deejay will thrill fans with the latest mix of music that includes bongo, hip-hop, crunk, soul and local music. The club has also installed large screens for patrons to catch sports action as they listen to music.
