Six essential tips you need for your first solo trip
LEISURE AND TRAVEL
By DAVIS MULI | 2 years ago
Solo trips are always fun and therapeutic until trouble knocks on your door. You definitely do not want to be caught unawares.
That’s why it is important to do research about where you are going and understand what is expected of you.
First..
1. Have confidence
You’re on your own probably for the first time, and it’s as daunting as it is exciting. Adopt a secure and open posture when you go out and explore.

2. Do not pack too much
Having too much to drag around with you can also add to feeling overwhelmed. Remember, you don’t need as much stuff as you think you do.
3. Be prepared and informed
Preparation is always essential but even more so when you are on your own.
Some simple steps to be appropriately prepared involve researching in advance, having a look at a map beforehand in order to quickly get your bearings, and making sure to be informed about the current political, economic, and social climate of your destination.
4. Arrive at your destination in the day
When travelling to a new destination, it is best to arrive in the daytime when it is still bright.
It is daunting enough to have to navigate a new place by yourself, and its difficulty will only be exacerbated when it is dark.
5. Split your money and valuables into different places
An important tip to remember is to split your money and valuables into different places. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket – in the unfortunate event that your wallet or purse is stolen, you wouldn’t want to lose everything in one go.
6. Have a backup plan
While you are on your own it is important to have a back up plan. Have a contact that you can reach out anytime if need be.
Hope for the best but prepare for the worst. In the event of any emergency, it is pivotal to have access to the relevant personnel who can help you.
