Five parts of your body you should clean better

Now more than ever, people are observing better hygiene practices and this has gone as far as the increased number of times we are washing our hands at any given day due to the pandemic.

While this may be simple, excessive showering on the other hand is not.

Turns out there are at least three parts of your body you also need to be washing frequently to get rid of bacteria, dirt and sweat.

To keep the smellies away, you may want to frequently wash your groin, armpits and feet.

While this may come as a relief for those who don’t fancy showering, it is not an endorsement to stop showering altogether. If anything, there is a likelihood your body is not as clean as you may think.

If you’re rushing through showers, using plain water and not rinsing properly, there is a likelihood of dirt and bacteria building up in certain parts of your body.

We look at some body parts you may want to clean better.

i.Under the fingernails

Yes, you’re washing your hands often but how often are you cleaning under your finger nails? I’ll wait. Rarely if ever.

Considering the number of times we use the restroom, touch raw meat, poke our noses and scratch our dirty oily scalps, chances of bacteria and other disgusting gunk colonizing your nails are high.

Keep your finger nails short and take time washing your hands, ensuring you gently remove the dirt underneath.

ii.Belly button

Most belly buttons have crevices making them perfect to hide bacteria and dirt. Also, due to the accumulation of sweat and dirt, they can get smelly if not cleaned properly.

And if you have a belly button with crevices, the more reason to exercise more care. Soak a cotton swab wit some warm soapy water or salt and disinfect the area regularly.

iii.Behind your ears

The folds behind your ears can collect sweat and sebum and if that goes uncleaned, they get unhygienic. And to make it even worse, people who get close enough can smell.

Make it a habit to clean that area regularly using a cotton swab soaked in a salt water solution or diluted vinegar.

iv.Back of the neck

If you have long hair and you occasionally wear it down, chances are there will be buildup, oil and dirt at the back of your neck making it susceptible to bacteria.

It is crucial you wash your hair often especially if you live in a dusty area and you use hair products a lot.

To clean the area, use a loofah with some warm water and soap.

v.Your tongue

Brushing your teeth is half the job done. Dental hygiene does not end with gum and teeth cleaning.

Due to the ridges and bumps found in the tongue, bacteria are able to hide and lodge easily. And unless you remove it, this can cause bad breath.

When brushing your teeth, use your toothbrush or a tongue scraper to scrape off the coating on your tongue then rinse to keep your tongue clean.
