#FashionTips: Six dressing hacks you should know
By LOLITA BUNDE | 3 months ago
Do you have those items in your closet you wish you could put on but you just don’t know how? It may be a pair of tight shoes or clothes you haven’t worn in ages, either way they just sit in your closet looking at you.
Sometimes the best thing to do in this case is to do a closet overhaul but if that is not an option, you should arm yourself with dressing hacks to make your work much easier. Here are six dressing hacks you should know and try:
- Wearing panties over leggings
During cold seasons or during those days you decide to put on a really short dress to the office, you can sometimes accompany your outfit with stockings.
However, your outfit combo could quickly come crumbling when your stockings start to misbehave, get loose and starting flowing downwards as you walk. This can easily be remedied by putting on a second pant over your stocking to hold it up.
- Loosening tight shoes with ice
You may own a pair pf heels or dolls shoes that never quite fit, maybe because of their design or size. And you find yourself caught between giving them away or waiting for a few weeks or months to break them in. Waiting to break them in may be an option but it will take much longer while you agonize over the shoes every day.
A quick way to solve this is by water in two plastic bags, inserting one in each show then putting your shoes in a freezer overnight. You should be able to put on your shoes more comfortably the next morning.
- Removing pills from garments using shaving razors
Sometimes your favourite trousers or coat can graze themselves on certain surfaces and this may leave unwanted pills on the garments, making your clothes look older or dirtier on those points. Well, not to worry, you can actually use shaving razors to get rid of these pills.
Gently stroke your shaving razor over the area with the pills over and over till you see the pills start to come off. Remember to be very gently to avoid slitting the fabric and flat iron the area to get rid of the thread residue.
- Mixing up items in your wardrobe
You don’t have to keep up with all the trends in every season to look chic, the easiest way to look stylish on a budget is by mixing things up. When shopping buy basic items as much as you buy the trendy ones to keep up with seasons.
The easiest way to keep up with trends without actually spending money is investing in timeless accessories. Clothes can and will go out of fashion but when you invest in the right accessories, they are likely to serve you for years.
- Accessorizing your outfits
The learn the art of using accessories to your advantage. Your clothes may look frumpy and boring but a well-placed accessory can elevate your outfit to a whole new level. The devil is in the details, use it to your advantage.
Details here include: a necklace, a statement belt, scarf, a pair of sunglasses, or even a fancy handbag. Be careful not to mash up all your details in a single outfit, there is a thin line between looking classy and tacky.
- Always iron your clothes
You may not know it but sometimes an amazing look can be achieved by simply ironing your clothes. It may not seem like a big deal but people notice these details, besides why downplay an amazing outfit after spending hours getting it right?
Plan your outfits early, iron in advance, smell fresh and slay the day.
Bonus tip: Always walk with a needle and thread in your purse, thank me later.
