Dear Coleen
I am a 19-year-old bloke and I work in a shop. My problem is there’s a girl on the checkouts who makes me feel very uncomfortable.
Every time I walk past her till she either winks at me or invites me into the freezers.
One time I did follow her into the freezer and she touched my chest. I know it sounds silly because I’m a man, but I don’t like it and don’t know what to do. Help!
Coleen says
Look, if it’s uninvited and you don’t like it then your feelings aren’t silly at all, but you have to be brave enough to tell her.
I think she’s probably trying to be flirtatious but she’s crossing the line and making you squirm.
Tell her you don’t appreciate what she’s doing and that you want her to stop.
And, if she doesn’t, then maybe you’ll have to speak to your boss and say her behaviour is stopping you from concentrating on work.
Of course, you might get some blokes saying “I wouldn’t mind someone flirting with me like that”, but they’re not you.
The next time she invites you into the freezer, just say no.
And maybe you need to add: “I don’t know why you’re doing this because I don’t fancy you.” Sometimes to get your point across you have to be blunt. But she’ll get over it.
What is your advice?
