Smart things you should do when dating as a single mum

Most single mums attest to getting back to the dating scene as being an uphill task. This is not to mean that you can't be able to find and accept love again. There are some things that are a sure way of raising your stakes in your dating scene.

Be straightforward with your intentions

It's no time to play games when you're dating and interested in settling. Unless it's casual, always aim to be with men whose intentions much yours. When you do the contrary, you may end up being in the exact same position you were in the previous relationship. Be kind to yourself and stay away from bad boys.

Be confident

Being a single mum can take a toll on your esteem. If you feel unworthy of love because you were hurt previously and live with a constant reminder of your broken past, halt there. To successfully date again, you'll need to actually be confident in your skin and state. Let the suitor be aware that you're a single mum and express your expectations. They'd rather leave after seeing your seriousness than stay and waste your time.

Leave your baggage out of the new relationship

It's common to find a new catch and shortly after when the relationship is flourishing, your ex ghosts come knocking guns blazing. You have the power to control your baggage from your previous relationship. It turns this new guy off when he has to constantly be dealing with what your ex has done, solving your problems with him or even having to be caught up in the middle. Deal with your past and even if co-parenting, let your ex know the boundaries. Otherwise, you'll always lose everyone that comes your way because they can't keep up with your baggage.

Don't expect the suitor to play daddy to your child

Even if the ultimate goal of your relationship could be settling down and consequently living together, you need not demand every suitor that comes your way to play daddy. Initially, these men are attracted to you and not necessarily your child. Give them time to adjust to the fact that you're a single mother and let them forge a relationship with your child slowly. Demanding money, gifts and pouring all fatherly responsibilities to the man is a turn off. These should be done gradually out of his own volition and never as a way to prove that they love you.
