I am guilty of hoarding clothes I didn’t need and so have you. Leave alone buying items you’re saving for the day you lose weight. And like we all know; it is a hoax. You probably couldn’t resist the urge and it was way too cute to pass off.

Considering some are still new, you can’t bring yourself to let go yet. For those you have been over wearing, you need to give up those unflattering items.

But as you do your revamp, there are a few timeless pieces you should keep. They’ll save you from time to time and they are timeless pieces that will never go out of style.

Here is what you need to keep as you reorganize your closet.

The LBD

A little black dress has been a wardrobe staple since the beginning of fashion. It can be dressed up or down with just a few tweaks which is exactly why you need to keep it. It will be on your list of go-to outfits when you’re not sure of what to wear for that special occasion.

Black leather jacket

A simple black leather jacket is also another classic. It’s all you’ll need if you want to have a quick transformation from a formal to informal style. If you’re meeting the girls after work and you want to avoid carrying a whole new outfit, you could grab your jacket and voila!

Basic work outfit

You should also have at least one or two outfits to wear to work in case of anything. It’s important to keep one in your closet because you never know when you’ll be required to dress in official wear. This will definitely save you from the embarrassment of not having any formal clothes to wear one day.

One gym outfit

Don’t get rid of all your workout clothes. Even when you’re not currently exercising, you should have a comfy outfit for those days where you’ll need them. You might actually have to attend an abrupt sporty event at one point like a charity race or a team building work challenge.

Black heels

This is similar to having the LBD in your closet. They practically match with every outfit and you can wear them to different occasions. They should be simple and plain because the flashy ones with too many details can’t be paired with a variety of outfits. Make sure they’re a comfortable pair as well.

Simple t-shirts

T-shirts aren’t the most fashionable items but they’re a necessity. You can’t always lounge at home with a fancy blouse nor do chores in something dressy. You need to be comfortable. But this doesn’t mean that you should keep super old and stained ones. Only keep them if they’re in good condition.

Scarves and shawls

You should keep one or two scarves. They’ll never run out of style and they keep you warm. They’re also a great elegant option when you want to avoid covering your amazing outfit with an unflattering jacket. They look good when paired with dresses, jeans and practically everything else.

Comfortable sneakers

Sneakers work for anyone at any age. Save a pair of comfy sneakers in your wardrobe because there are days when you just don’t want to stress yourself with high heels and open sandals. So before you toss them out or give them away, think twice. It’s better to save some essential items until you buy replacements.

What is worse: a fake smile or a grumpy face?
