He's one of the most powerful people in the world, but President Joe Biden will always, always make time for his family.

His loving granddaughters claim that wherever he is, whatever he's doing, he will answer their calls - even if they are just ringing to check in.

After his election victory last year, the eldest Naomi posted a heartwarming photo of the 46th President getting a huge group hug from all his family.

Joe Biden has four children, two of whom have died, and seven grandchildren.

His older grandchildren - Naomi, Finnegan, Maisy, Natalie and Hunter, joined his presidential campaign as he took on Donald Trump, and were filled with praise and admiration for their granddad.

The granddaughters called a family meeting before Joe put himself forward to run for President to tell him that he had to do it.

Recalling that time, Natalie said: "Pop told us that this election would be totally different from any other election ever. He was worried how it would affect his kids."

Naomi adds: "We just knew that he had to run, and we weren't going to take no as an answer. At the end of the day, I think we're all very happy we had that meeting."

As Joe and new First Lady Dr Jill Biden officially move into the White House, we take a look at the new First Family.

Beau Biden

Joe's first born son, Beau arrived in 1969.

He studied at the University of Pennsylvania before taking a job as a law clerk for a judge in New Hampshire.

In 1995 he became a federal prosecutor with the US justice department, a job he held until 2002.

He has volunteered for an assignment training judges and prosecutors in post-war Kosovo.

He also served a year-long deployment in Iraq and was awarded a Bronze Star.

Beau married Hallie Olivere in 2002 and the couple went on to welcome two children - Natalie in 2004 and Robert in 2006.

Just four years after his son was born, Beau suffered a minor stroke.

In 2013 he was diagnosed with brain cancer but was given the all-clear after surgery.

But in 2015, Beau Biden tragically passed away from brain cancer.

Speaking about her step-son's tragic death, Jill said earlier this year: "After our son, Beau, died of cancer, I wondered if I would ever smile or feel joy again. It was summer, but there was no warmth left for me.

"Four days after Beau's funeral, I watched Joe shave and put on his suit. I saw him steel himself in the mirror, take a breath, put his shoulders back, and walk out into a world empty of our son. He went back to work. That's just who he is."

Robert Hunter Biden

Biden's middle son, who is referred to by his middle name, Hunter, currently works as an attorney and is the founder of venture capital firm Eudora Global.

He has been the subject of many controversies over the years, particularly his battles with alcohol and drugs.

However, his father has also stood by his side, and when Trump brought up his addiction Joe said he was "proud of him".

Responding to the then-President's personal comments, Joe responded: "My son had a drug problem. He's overtaken it. He's fixed it. He's worked on it. I'm proud of him, I'm proud of my son."

Hunter married his first wife Kathleen Buhle in 1993 and the pair went on to welcome three children - Naomi, Finnegan and Maisy.

However, the couple divorced in 2017.

In the summer of 2019, he married filmmaker Melissa Cohen and the couple had a son in March last year.

Hunter also has a child with Lunden Roberts, who he reportedly met at a strip club.

Naomi Biden, daughter

Joe's first wife Neilia and the couple's daughter Naomi were tragically killed in a car crash as they went out Christmas shopping in 1972.

Naomi was just one when she died.

The devastating accident left Joe to bring up their sons, Beau, four, and Hunter, three, on his own.

Ashley Biden

Ashley is Joe and Jill's only child together.

She studied cultural anthropology at Tulane University before earning a place at University of Pennsylvania.

She graduated with a degree in social work in 2010 and got a job as a social worker in Washington.

In 2014 she was named executive director of the Delaware Center for Justice, a job she held for five years and described as "one of the great honours of her life".

She also has a socially and ethically conscious fashion line, Livelihood.

Ashley is now chief medical officer at StartUk Health and an assistant professor at Thomas Jefferson University.

She is married to Dr Howard David Krein.

She has recently graduated from Columbia Law School, previously studying at the University of Pennsylvania.

Naomi regularly tweets about her grandfather, sharing family photos and cute quotes.

At the end of last year she wrote: "Anyone who wants to get to [Joe Biden] will have to get past us first. We may not look intimidating, but remember our Nanna is [Jill Biden].

Finnegan Biden

Finnegan was born in 2000 and was named after her great-grandmother.

She's more private than her sisters and cousin and doesn't have public social media accounts - however she has made several appearances to support her granddad's election campaign.

Maisy Biden

Naomi and Finnegan's youngest sister, Maisy was born in 2001.

When she graduated from High School in 2019, Joe took to Instagram to tell the world how proud he was.

He wrote: "Jill and I were so thrilled to be there today to watch our amazing granddaughter Maisy graduate from high school.

"Maisy, you make us so proud and we can’t wait to see what you do next with your talent, smarts, dedication and kindness.

"The future is yours, and Nana and Pop will always be right behind you."

Maisy is best friends with Michelle and Barack Obama's daughter, Sasha, and the two girls had a joint party when they finished school.

Natalie Biden

The 16-year-old is the oldest child of Beau and Hallie.

She spoke about her grandmother during the campaign, saying: "I would say she’s not your average grandmother. She’s a prankster, she’s very mischievous.

"When she goes on a run, sometimes she’ll find, like, a dead snake and she’ll pick it up and put it in a bag and she’ll use it to scare someone."

Robert Hunter Biden

Beau and Hallie's youngest child is named after his uncle.

He was born in 2006.

He joined his sisters and cousins for a campaign video for the 2020 Democratic National Convention, in which he recited the National Anthem.

Baby Biden 2018

In 2018, Lunden Roberts gave birth to Hunter's fourth child.

The child has remained anonymous.

Hunter initially denied he was the father however a judge has since ruled that he is the "biological and legal father".

Baby Biden 2020

Hunter and Melissa welcomed a baby boy last year, while Joe was on the campaign trail.

According to a Page Six report at the time, the new arrival was "beautiful and healthy".
