BRIDE: Christine Mukiri
GROOM: Julius Ng’ang’a
DATE: July 9, 2016
GUESTS: 350
VENUE: Utalii Library Grounds,
Nairobi
BUDGET: Sh500,000
FIRST DATE
JULIUS: We met at Moi University, Nairobi campus where we were students. When we graduated, I could not resist the urge to meet her once again. I asked her out for dinner at a hotel in Nairobi and she responded positively. I got to know her better. It took me three hours to get her to go out on another date.
THE PROPOSAL
JULIUS: I proposed to her at Trattoria Hotel in Nairobi. I called her for coffee one evening after work. We had a very nice time together. While she was taking her last sip of coffee, I went down on one knee and proposed to her. She was so amazed. It came as a big surprise since she had not anticipated it. After a few seconds, she said yes. I was very happy.
THE DRAMA
CHRISTINE: Our wedding started two hours late because it coincided with the Safaricom Diabetes Walk, hence there was a huge traffic jam. This also affected our photo shoot that took place when it was already dark. But our photographer was great. The pictures are marvelous despite being taken late.
JULIUS: During the planning, disagreements were inevitable between us. We later came to a consensus and moved on with our plans.
ADVICE
JULIUS: Nothing would be done differently. We loved the way everything was arranged
We advise the young couples who wish to wed to start their saving early to avoid last minute rush. Young people should also not rely fully on committee and friend’s pledges, some will honour them, while others will not.
CHRISTINE: A couple should also have a planning team that will help in ensuring your day becomes a success.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS
JULIUS: Seeing her being escorted to the alter by her parents made me feel great. Not forgetting our officiating, Rev Oscar Amisi who really made our ceremony a success. He really kept time despite the function starting late. He also engineered a simplicity and joy that helped in setting the wedding mood.
I thank God that all our service providers were cooperative and did not disappoint. Friends and family stood with us from the start of the plans to the very end, ensuring the success of our big day. We would like to appreciate our best couple and committee that did a tremendous job. God bless them all.
