Seven uses of lemon you didn’t know

Lemons are a household must-have, commonly used to treat colds, added to drinks and used to flavour food. This citrus fruit is tangy and readily available. Apart from its use in the kitchen, lemons can be used for many other things. Here's how you can use lemons in your home.

1. Freshening your microwave

Dilute a few drops of lemon juice in half a cup of water and place in the microwave. Heat until the water starts steaming. The steam will freshen your microwave, rid it of bad oduors, leaving it with a fresh lemon scent.

2. Stain removal

The acid nature of lemons make it come in handy when it comes to removing stains. Use it to remove wine, sweat, lipstick, coffee and paint stains. 

3. Managing nausea

If you get car sick or are having bouts of morning sickness, eating a slice of lemon or adding some lemon juice to a glass of water or tea can help. Lemon juice contains acid which form bicarbonates that help neutralize nausea. They also enhance production of saliva in the mouth also relieving nausea.

3. Better sleep

Lemon can help you relax ensuring that you have a better night’s sleep. Boil some water, put some lemon in and inhale and sleep, you're more likely to sleep better. 

4. Prevents sugar from clamping

Do you ever get frustrated from the amounts of sugar lumps in your sugar dish? You can finally solve this by putting a lemon peel in the sugar. Your sugar will never clump together again.

5. No more mushy rice 

Not everyone can make the perfect rice that doesn't turn out into a sort of mashed food. If you want to make sure that your rice doesn’t clamp up, put a lemon peel at the bottom of the cooking pot as you boil the water. Remove the rind when serving your perfectly cooked rice.

6. Aids in healing acne scars

To help your acne scars heal faster, apply lemon juice on them. The lemon juice will help the scars fade. Lemon juice also has antibacterial properties which can help prevent acne and brighten your skin.
