Everyone could use a little refreshing in their style every now and then. It’s up to you to find that inspo that will help you transform even the most basic outfit into something amazing.

Whether you’re into minimalism, grunge or a more feminine style, these nine tips from the fashion gurus could really up your game.

1. Know your body shape

Knowing your body shape is very key when it comes to style. It guides you on what would be flattering and what you should avoid. It also helps you learn how to style different pieces to suit your body type. This kind of knowledge is an empowering part of self-awareness.

2. Plan your outfits

A key part of staying organised is making a plan. Planning also helps reduce anxiety and ensures that you’re always punctual to your appointments When you take the time to plan your outfits, you will reduce the chances of having a fashion fail since you have enough time to think through all your outfits. Make it a habit to plan a week’s worth of outfits during the weekend and see what difference it makes.

3. Take fashion risks

The only way you can do this is by stepping out of your comfort zone. You’ll never know what’s out there if you only play it safe. Try new styles and shop through different age sections at the clothing store once in a while. You’ll be amazed at the unique pieces you can find.

4. Overdress rather than underdress

It’s better to overdress when you’re not too sure of what to wear. This ensures that you’re never that person who isn’t dressed appropriately for the occasion. Honestly, I’d rather have people stare at because I’m overdressed rather than have people stare at me because I showed up in sweats.

5. Look for inspiration

There are many fashion icons out there that can inspire you to be the fashion bombshell you want to be. Your icon might even be someone you know, whose style you admire. Life is all about learning and style is no exception. Ask for some shopping tips from that trendy friend, pin some inspiring boards on Pinterest and follow style icons you can relate to on Instagram.

6. Have a capsule wardrobe

A capsule wardrobe is a collection of key, timeless pieces that form the core of your outfit. These pieces can then be paired with seasonal items to make them weather-appropriate.

Create your capsule wardrobe as a base for your daily outfits. This will also help getting ready faster.

7. Have at least one pair of statement shoes

Simple heels, boots and sneaks are great for every other day. But once in a while, a statement pair of shoes could take a simple outfit from basic to 100.

8. Always accessorize

Wear at least one piece of jewellery with your outfits. Visually, an outfit can look incomplete when you don’t have any accessories on. Personally I’m not a fan of too much jewellery, but I notice a big difference when I wear a few pieces and when I fail to wear any jewellery.

9. Have one conversation starter

Fashion is all about art and self-expression. And owning that conversation starter could really spark some curiosity and make you stand out from the crowd. Add those bold pieces to your closet and you’ll never regret it.

If you could choose any age, to stay in for the rest of your life, which would it be?
