Why good girls always fall for bad boys

Girl Talk

Many years from today, I hope that some creative movie producer will use the events from a few months ago to develop a movie on the life and times of Ali Hassan Joho. We were entertained and sometimes flabbergasted by the dramatic fights between Gov.001 and the powers that be and we were all speculating about how that would end. Just like every other Kenyan, I found myself in a debate with my friends regarding the Joho Saga as we pontificated about the whys and why nots of his then predicament.

Somewhere in the middle of our debate, a number of my girlfriend gave us a rather long explanation about how all that Joho drama made him ‘hot’ and attractive - once again affirming the long held truth that most women like bad boys. Bad boys always get the girls and here is why.

To start with, most bad boys are good looking. They come equipped with either a fine face, a hot body or both. In some rare instances when they lack the fine face and hot body, they make up for it with good dressing and good mannerisms. So, you might find a guy who looks like a Makonde mask but possesses the slickness and suave mannerisms of an English gentleman. It is also important that a bad boy settles on a ‘certain look’ that reinforces his image of bad boy.

It could be anything from being draped in bling to wearing signature bespoke suits. Unlike with his academic record (I am still at pains to understand how anyone can score a D-), Gov.001 scores a perfect A in the looks department with his ability to wear bespoke to what I think was his finest look when he wore that Arab-inspired outfit (complete with the sword). That being said, I think the masaibus are now getting to him since his overgrown beard and his expanding girth is making him lose his sheen.

Another reason why bad boys are hits with women is because of their love for and their natural way with women. Most bad boys have the ability to seduce and confuse not one but many women. They are usually able to do this through the use of syrupy seduction, grand romantic gestures or by being pleasure dispensers in the bedroom. The ultimate bad boy is not monogamous by nature and he usually floats from one woman to another with some fair amount of drama.

Bad boys like to be draped around beauties and beautiful women are the perfect accessory for the bad boys. The irony about all this is that these womanising habits make him more attractive rather than repulsive to women. Women feel compelled to shower these bad men with their affection hoping that this will make them change their ways and cause them to see the folly of their ways. This almost always never works.

To qualify to be a bad boy in this day and age, one has be endowed with resources of the monetary kind. The true bad boy must display the ability to transform the lives of those around him (especially the women around him) by grand acts of generosity (like splashing money on new cars and on trips abroad). Bad boys are the ones who run huge tabs in the bars by buying everyone exotic drinks and by being the ‘chop my money’ kind of guys.

The icing on the cake for one to become an ultimate bad boy is power — raw masculine power which can be used to terrorise other men and to entice women. History is replete with tales of bad boys like Pablo Escobar, who were scandalous, obscenely wealthy and notorious womanisers. For those who choose to become bad boys, they must always remember that is a lifestyle that is risky and expensive and does not belong to the broke or to the fainthearted.
