Why you should micromanage your man's wardrobe

It is time women stopped putting up with men who dress like slobs. I don’t know what it is about Kenyan men and fashion, but, good grief, they just can’t seem to get it together! The fashion horrors I’ve seen on the streets of Nairobi are enough to keep a person up at night.

I don’t know if it is because they don’t care or they don’t know any better but women need to start prompting their men to improve their sense of style.

It is disheartening to see a well dressed lady and an abominably attired gentleman together. If your lady is going the extra mile and dressing to the proverbial nines, would it kill you to at least put in a little effort in your ensemble?

I can’t tell you the number of times I have seen a grown man wearing atrocious clothes and thought to myself ‘for the love of God, dude, try a little’!

We need to stop getting involved with men who don’t respect themselves enough to dress for the occasion. Once a man gets into a relationship, his fashion sense should improve drastically to reflect his new status.

It is embarrassing for an a la mode woman to be seen strutting around with a man who doesn’t seem give two hoots about his appearance.

You don’t need to be a fashionista, but for the sake of all that is holy don’t be the perennially casual man. Football jerseys, promotion t-shirts, sweat pants and shorts and bathroom sleepers are for clueless singletons.

Fashion advice

Once a man gets hitched, these kinds of attires automatically become unacceptable. He should start dressing respectably. It is clear that men are incapable of dressing themselves. Women have been dressing their men since time immemorial.

It is only that in recent times, when a woman tries offering sensible fashion advice to her ‘fashionably challenged’ man, he goes up in arms thinking she is hell bent on emasculating him.

Your man’s style (or lack thereof) will have implications on your reputation. I am calling on all the wives and girlfriends to take matters into their own hands. Men won’t concern themselves with dressing well simply because they don’t think they have to. It is up to you to style your man.

I am urging you to micromanage his wardrobe. If you have to lay out outfits for him every night then so be it! Don’t just fantasise about burning those god awful outfits he seems so fond of. Do it.

Tailored suit

Get rid of all the stuff you don’t like. Out with the rugged jeans sneakers and in with crisply tailored suits, good quality cotton pants, well fitted shirts, cashmere sweaters and leather shoes.

How a man dresses matters because it directly affect his state of mind. A well-dressed man will be more confident and self-assured than his poorly dressed counterparts.

Every woman wants a man commands respect when he walks into a room. We want a man who everybody admires. Nobody will be singing you praises if you are always dressed like a hobo.

There are a few surefire ways to nudge your man to dress better. You can start by gifting him clothes that you like. Buy him that tailored suit and don’t forget to tell him how irresistible he is.

Be genuine, of course, but don’t be afraid to lay it on a bit thick. Men need a little positive reinforcement to get in line. With a bit of effort, even the most oblivious of poorly dressed men can be saved.
