BRIDE: Faith Wairimu Wakibia

GROOM: Enos Barang’a Mudaki

DATE: November 8, 2016

GUESTS: 300

VENUE: Chiromo Campus Grounds

BUDGET: Sh550,000

FIRST DATE:

It took place a long time ago. We don’t remember the details very well but it was sometime in 2007 when Enos was going back to campus. He was at Moi University. All I remember is it was after the long holidays around August. We went to a hotel in Nakuru. We can’t even recall the name.

THE PROPOSAL

ENOS: We had two proposals. The first one took place while we were in Bungoma on December 25, 2015, which was Faith’s birthday .

FAITH: He didn’t have a ring but he asked me if I would be his wife.

ENOS: The second one took place on March 7, 2016 at Faith’s house in Nairobi.

FAITH: Somehow, I knew he was going to propose, but I pretended not to know. He got out this gorgeous ring, went down on one knee and put it on my finger. I was overwhelmed because, finally, after almost ten years, I was to become his wife. He promised to make me the happiest woman on earth.

THE DRAMA

FAITH: We went for a colorful theme with silver, peach and lime green. We also had an African touch with our music selection. The planning was hectic but we got tremendous support from family and friends.

ENOS: Two weeks to the wedding, Faith did not have a gown because she missed her visa interview to the place she was to buy her gown. So she had to purchase it locally in a hurry. Unfortunately, she couldn’t find one in her size and the one she wanted because most shops stock smaller sizes. Eventually she found one.

Money was another issue and things that needed money kept cropping up every week. Somehow we managed thanks to savings and our wonderful family and friends who supported us wholeheartedly. The officiating pastor was out of the country for two months towards the wedding and came back just a few days to the wedding. A thought of uncertainty kept running through our mind but he made it.

FAITH: Thank God our service providers delivered and they were very good people. But the cake was very disappointing.

WITH HINDSIGHT

ENOS: Cheap is expensive! We took the cheapest proposal and the cake turned out to be horrible and a total mess. But we had a very supportive wedding committee who literally held things together for us.

Be understanding and know that people have a right to say no with regards to assisting you on your wedding day. And those who help, you get to know your real friends.

Planning a wedding without a wedding planner takes courage, perseverance and grace from God. But above all love conquers everything. At the end of the day what matters is the groom, the bride and the officiating pastor. The rest is just icing on the cake.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS

FAITH: The photo session! It was at the Chiromo campus and we had no idea how beautiful the place is. The photographers were very creative.

HONEYMOON

ENOS: We drove to the Coast and had random visits to Kilifi, Malindi, Mombasa and Mtwapa. It was breathtaking especially the ocean swim and the gorgeous sunsets.
