Regardless of the size of your living room, coffee tables will serve as dinner tables, foot rest, storage for magazines and you can even polish your nails on them. They have evolved from mundane to cool and quirky, revolutionizing décor. You too, can enhance this fact by forgoing the old boring rectangular coffee table for unique alternatives. Here are some:

Ottoman: For those who love resting their feet on a coffee table, the ottoman is a more comfortable option because of the soft top. It is a large padded stool or bench. If you want to place some essentials on it, have a tray to keep them steady. Indeed the ottoman has taken center stage in front of many sofas. The fact that it is large also offers you enough space to keep your trays and books.

Side tables: Grouping side tables together is another idea for coffee tables. Instead of just keeping them on the side and ignoring them as they collect dust, bring them to the center. They take less space, are pleasant and quite functional.

Trunk: Using a trunk will also offer you more storage options. They are sturdy and also add a vintage feel to your living room. Get your old trunk, revamp it by painting or redecorating it, and then place it where you would ordinarily have a coffee table.

Books: Place a stack of books or magazines on the floor then put a wooden slab on top and viola! Your coffee table is set. Avoid using books or magazines you have not yet read as this could lead you to destabilizing an already set coffee table.

Bench: Using a bench as a coffee table offers a rustic or cottage feel home. Get a long and low wooden bench for a perfect touch. The surface works perfectly for placing books and even beverages.

Stools: Similar to ottoman, upholstered stools put together, will make a great coffee table. What’s more, they have a versatile base that adds drama to your space. Wooden and wicker stools can also work. Add a piece of glass atop them and you have your coffee table.

Drum: These were very common in the 1980s and early 90s. Growing up, we had one that served as a coffee table. Yes, they still look great and have similar dimensions with coffee tables. To give it a modern touch, place a piece of glass on top of it (round, square or rectangle) depending on the shape.

Trolley: A trolley for a coffee table is another great idea. You can always push it in or out of the space or around the room when you have guests to serve.
