Mzee Haji Yassin Jama, founder of the popular Kilimanjaro Food Restaurants, is dead. The late Jama died on Friday and is set to be buried later today.
Garissa Township MP Aden Duale eulogised the deceased as a role model and shrewd businessman who often advised him on political and social issues.
“Mzee Yassin was a renowned Muslim businessman in Nairobi and Namanga, respectable Somali Community elder, and was the current vice- chair of Eastleigh Business Council. He was involved in community peace building and was a voice of our community.
“He was my father, friend, role model and elder. I will dearly miss his wise counsel on many political and community issues. May Almighty Allah dwell him in Jannatul firdowas and grant his family patience,” wrote Duale.
Mzee Jama is fondly remembered for his messages of unity during the Dusit terror attack in 2019 that claimed over 20 lives. At the time, he called for togetherness among Kenyans, urging them not to associate all Muslims with terrorism.
He noted that there is no verse in the Quran that calls for killing other people, adding that terrorists destroy anything and anyone in their way.
"Islam does not condone terrorism. I am a Kenyan Somali and we have lost our beloved ones just like other Kenyans. A terrorist does not have a religion, colour and tribe. Terrorists do not kill selectively, they hate all of us," he said at the time.
May his soul rest in peace.
