Comedian David the Student speaks after racism incident

News
Comedian David the Student racially abused in the US.

Ex-Churchill show comedian David Kangogo popularly known as David the Student has thanked those who supported him after a passenger racially abused him in Issaquah, Washington State. In his message, David said he was overwhelmed with the messages he received and described what transpired as a 'sad situation'.

"Thank you. I didn't do anything special. This is just a sad situation in many ways and I hope they learn and better but the support and messages I've received had been incredible and the people from Issaquah are without a doubt wonderful, awesome, stunning, lovely," said David the Student.

Drama ensued when David, who works for a taxi-hailing company known as Lyft, kicked a passenger out of his car for failure to put on a mask. Footage of the November 17 incident, which went round on social media, showed a seemingly drunk man in the company of a woman, hurling insults at David and threatening to pee on his car.

"You're a f****** and n****. F*** you… Here hold on, I'll feel better when I piss in here. Let me piss in your car," said the man as the woman he was with tried to stop him.

David, who was still recording the incident at this point, told the man to go ahead and pee on his car. After hurling insults, the man later told David he'll never drive again, to which the comedian responded, 'are you happy now?'

Speaking to Newsweek David said, “He ignored me the first time, I repeated (it)and told him he's putting me at risk and all the other passengers I pick up after him. So I just pulled over and got out of the car and told them I have cancelled the ride, they can go ahead and get another drive.”

The incident irked many people, including Issaquah Mayor Mary Lou Pauly, who posted on Twitter, saying, "Let me make it clear: Racism has no place in our community. We must all respect each other (and #MaskUp, Issaquah)."

Lyft company also condemned the incident and announced that they permanently banned the rider and even reached out to David to offer support.

"There is no place for discrimination of any sort in the Lyft community, and this behaviour is unacceptable. We have permanently removed the rider from the Lyft community and are in touch with the driver to offer our support," Lyft tweeted.
