Former TV anchor Allan Namu opens on how he met and married his wife

John Allan Namu’s love story with Sheena Makena is an interesting one. Despite having a three-year age gap with Makena being the older one, the two are happy admitting that they are both mature and the age gap never really comes between them.  Weighing in on their age difference, the jovial couple say that they hardly think about it adding that it only crops up when they have to fill in forms or when asked about it.

The power couple got married in 2010 and have since been blessed with four children.

Namu, speaking on a local TV show together with his wife to talk about their love story, opened up about how he had known Makena for a long time before they took things a notch higher, starting all the way from campus. The two later met again at Standard Group when Namu came for his internship and Makena was an editor there.

When the flame between the two started building up, Namu was in a long distance relationship that he says was not working out for him as well as he had wanted it to. He admits that he enjoyed the moments he had with Makena and he found himself getting super attracted to her as she was always supportive of him and his work.

When Makena got pregnant with his child, things became complicated and she set out to plan out her life. For Namu, this became a turning point and he had to come clean with his family and ex-girlfriend. During the same period, Namu was working as an investigative reporter alongside Mohammed Ali and the two were forced into exile abroad over threats.

It is during his one-month exile in Europe that he made up his mind, shopped for the baby and decided to settle down with Makena.

“I told Makena I’m willing to work things out and be part of our child’s life. We went for an ultra sound at 20 weeks and when I was told we were having a boy I was really excited. This was one of the points in our relationship that really cemented who we are today,” he says.
