Principal bags bronze in global excellence fete

A former principal of a technical college has received global recognition from the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP).

Dr Daniel Mutai, who headed the Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology, received a bronze award during the WFCP 2022 World Congress in Donostia-San Sebastian, Spain, on Friday night.

WFCP is a global network of individual, national and regional associations of colleges, with those in Kenya represented through the Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions (KATTI).

The congress was attended by over 1,000 professionals drawn from over 50 countries who discussed challenges facing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions worldwide.

In the awards of excellence, Dr Mutai is among three winners under the Leadership in Diversity and Inclusion category.

Dawn Ward, the current WFCP president and head of Burton and South Derbyshire College in the UK received the gold award.

Jane Ngobia, the current Vice President of Inclusive Communities and head of Sheridan College based in Canada received the silver award.

“This is a win for all educationists and leaders all over the world, who believe in the value of integrity, inclusivity, equity and diversity in leadership,” said Dr Mutai in his acceptance speech.
