The examinations council has asked candidates to verify their registration status for this year's national exams.

Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) acting Chief Executive Officer Mercy Karogo Thursday said the council was cleaning data for all the candidates and noted that corrections would be effected at this stage.

"The process is going on and we are asking candidates and teachers to verify and be convinced that they were duly registered. We do not want anyone to be left out," said Ms Karogo.

By close of registration last month, a total of 1.5 million candidates had registered to sit this year's Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

Of the number, 972,837 candidates are registered to sit the 2017 KCPE and 573,234 for KCSE exams.

"The deadline lapsed on February 28. We are now cleaning the data and after that exercise, we shall proceed with other processes," she said. During this year's registration, candidates had only six weeks to register; January 17 to February 28.

The Knec boss asked all concerned; parents, teachers and candidates, to ensure every candidate was registered. Only repeaters were instructed to pay examination fees.

Registration guidelines for this year are that no examination centre shall register less than 15 candidates.
