Fire at Kerugoya Prison destroys at least 21 houses

A fire at that the Kerugoya Prison in Kirinyaga County destroyed at least 21 houses that prison wardens call home.

The Tuesday morning inferno left the wardens department counting losses after their property was reduced into ashes.

It was reported that it broke out in one of the houses before spreading to other wooden and iron structures in the facility, but it was put out before spreading further.

The incident as confirmed by the Kirinyaga County Police commander Mohamed Jire who said that preliminary investigations had shown that the fire might have been caused by a candle.
