MP: Support State for jobs

Kenyans have been urged to support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration to deliver on growing the economy and creating more jobs.

The calls by Nairobi Jubilee MPs come in the wake of last week’s economic survey released by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), indicating that the economy grew 5.3 per cent last year, compared to the 5.7 per cent recorded in 2013.

“We have the potential to grow the economy in double digits, if only we put our act together and shun divisive politics and slay the dragon of corruption,” said Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru.

He said the fact that the country had created 800,000 jobs means the economy is growing, but more support and unity of purpose are needed for the Jubilee government to deliver on its promises.

“For now, we should cut on negative political competition and focus on growing our nation’s fundamentals, which include agriculture and the manufacturing industries so as to create more opportunities for our youth,” he said yesterday.

Mr Waweru also challenged Kenyans to provide information to security agents on criminal activities happening around them.

“When we condone criminals and terrorists in our midst, we are killing the country’s potential to attract foreign and local investors to come and do business here. Let all of us take security seriously and report any suspicious individuals or activities in our neighbourhoods,” he added.
