President Uhuru Kenyatta names tribunal members to probe Justice Joseph Mutava

NAIROBI, KENYA: President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed a five-member tribunal to probe suspended judge Joseph Mutava.

The President appointed Court of Appeal judge Justice David Maraga as chairperson of the tribunal.

Members of the tribunal include High Court judges Justice Maureen Odero and Justice David Majanja.

Mr. Omesh Kapila, a Senior Counsel and Professor Patricia Kamiri Mbote, the Dean of Faculty of Law University of Nairobi will also sit in the tribunal.

President Uhuru also appointed Ms. Nazima Malik as the Lead Counsel and Emmanuel Bitta as Assistant Counsel to the Tribunal.

Ms Mugure Gituto and Mr. John Makori were appointed as joint secretaries to the tribunal.

The mandate of the tribunal will be to investigate the conduct of Justice Mutava, prepare and submit a
report with recommendations to the President.

President Uhuru suspended Justice Mutava on Thursday and formed a tribunal to investigate his conduct.

The judge was suspended following recommendations by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

His woes relate to his handling of Goldenberg cases involving businessman Kamlesh Pattni.

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and the International Centre for Policy and Conflict (ICPC) filed complaints against the judge to JSC.
