Members of the Kikuyu Council of Elders have welcomed Anglican Church Archbishop Jackson ole Sapit's refusal to attend Lambeth Conference in London, UK.

The members affiliated to Murang'a Chapter led by retired Catholic Priest Joakim Gitonga said action by Sapit should be emulated by all to save generations from plunging into homosexuality.

Speaking in Murang'a in a meeting convened by County Cultural Groups Association, Gitonga said gayism was a threat that should be tackled through traditional education.

"We support sentiments by the Archbishop as there is a fear with our youth being educated to join homosexuality," said Gitonga.

Chairman of the cultural association Muraya Gatundu said the youth should be assisted to acquire the right information.

"There is a need to raise alarm to safeguard the future. Homosexuality is here with us thus need to deal with lesbians and gays, "said Muraya.

Muraya said the Council members will start visiting schools to educate the youth over the dangers of engaging in homosexuality.

"In partnership with school administrations, the council has drawn a road map to reach the youth in schools and colleges.

The purpose is to educate youth over the impending dangers should advocate anti-social behaviours," said Muraya.

A leader in the women wing of the council of elders Mercy Kimwe said mothers are worried over the penetration of homosexuality in Central Kenya.

"The church has led the way which should be followed by others to installed discipline in the community, "said Kimwe.

At the conference, the bishops are allowed to attend alongside their spouses.

Sapit speaking in Kirianyaga County early this year said he would not attend Lambeth Conference as some of the attendances supported gay marriage.
