Chelugui suffer blow as court revokes former MP appointment to Tana Water

Former Mathira MP Peter Weru has suffered a blow after a court in Nyeri revoked his appointment as chairman of Tana Water Works Development Agency (TWWDA).

Yesterday, Employment and Labour Relations Court suspended Weru’s appointment by Water Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui, terming it illegal.

Justice Nzioki wa Makau said due process was not followed in replacing William Wahome Mwangi as TWWDA chairman.

He dismissed Gazette notices by Mr Chelegui, purported to have revoked Mwangi’s appointment and instead appointing Weru, as null and void.

“Gazette notice No 9866 purports to appoint Weru to the position of the chairperson with effect from July 26, 2019. Immediately following is notice NO 9867 of October 17, which purports to revoke appointment of Wahome,” Justice Makau said.

He said the notices were illegal, null and void “as there is no way they could be valid without adherence of the law...”

He said the court had reversed the actions of the CS by quashing the gazette notices.

The court had dismissed an application by Weru, through his lawyer Maurice Mburu, to be enjoined as an interested party in the petition.
