MURANGA, KENYA: Police in Murang’a have recovered a firearm suspected to have been used in robberies and abduction incidents arresting two suspects.

Acting on a tip off, the security agents recovered a pistol arresting two suspects whom the police have described as wanted after he was implicated in incidents of robbery in the region.

The gun which was not loaded was recovered from the suspect who was in a miraa (Khat) selling kiosk in Mukuyu market.

On Friday, Murang’a East Administration Police Commandant Jeremiah Munyambala said the security officers after a tip off conducted search recovering the firearm from one of the suspect in the crime prone area.

Munyambala said, one of the suspect in police custody is suspected to have been part of a criminal gang that in December last year was linked with incidents of abducting businesspersons in Mukuyu market and Maragua town.

One of the suspect is said to be a threat even to his relatives forcing some to flee from their home.

“They have been evading arrest for long until members of the public in Kongu ini area volunteered information over their suspicious movements,” said administration police commandant.

He thanked members of the public for been part of community policing as a strategy to reduce crime.

“Community policing strategy has played a crucial role in weed out criminal elements from the region,” said Munyambala.

Arrest of the suspected criminals comes at a time when many of the people are complaining of increased incidents of mugging and breaking of houses.
