WEST POKOT, KENYA: West Pokot County governor John Lonyangapuo has warned county staff of laxity and failure to execute their mandates.
Lonyangapuo noted that a number of county officers have been noted to swindle county government funds without showing meaningful results.
Speaking at the Mtelo hall after meeting the county staff, Lonyangapuo said some of the county officers do not have a proper working mechanism thus creating a loophole for embezzlement of funds.
“There are so many people who are qualified and searching for jobs if they will be given a chance they can perform better than you and improve services at the county level. Those who still think they will continue to earn without working are living a lie soon they find themselves jobless,” Lonyangapuo said.
The county boss hinted that he would reshuffle his cabinet including some county staffs.
“My administration is planning to carry out an evaluation exercise for entire staff. We will crack down on county workers who perform below expectations,” he said.
The Governor explained that the move was meant to help the administration assess its capacity to manage the functions, which were devolved from the national government, which include paying salaries of civil servants.
He has asked civil servants in the county to be morally responsible in service delivery to the people.
