Lobby formed to champion interests of insurance agents

By Wainaina Wambu | Published Fri, December 8th 2017 at 00:00, Updated December 7th 2017 at 21:40 GMT +3

Most insurance agents are driven by sales instead of demonstrating to Kenyans why they need the product, the insurance regulator has said.

The Insurance Regulatory Authority of Kenya's technical compliance officer, Joshua Mwongela, said the "product is as good as the seller" and most agents had zero knowledge on the insurance business. "You (insurance agents) are selling a promise and you must be seen to be as good as the product,” he said.

Mr Mwongela was speaking on behalf of the commissioner of insurance during the launch of the Association of Kenya Professional Insurance Agents (AKPIA). AKPIA seeks to champion the interests of insurance agents.
