"Yes" to win by 72.5% say election observers

The Election Observation Group (ELOG) has declared that the ‘Yes’ group will be the victors of the referendum by a margin of 72.5 per cent and the ‘No’ with 31.2 per cent (margin error of +/- 1.7percent).

The ‘Yes’ side of referendum had surpassed the 25 per cent majority of the required vote in at least five of the eight provinces.

Speaking at press conference at Nairobi hotel the chairman of ELOG Kennedy Masime said that they used a system called the Parallel Vote Tabulation (PVT), which has being used in more than 30 countries.

He noted that PVT carries the mandate to deploy highly trained, accredited observers to a representative random sample of polling station to collect data on the conduct of the voting, counting process and to record the official vote count for the polling station.

He added that the PVT is able to provided independent and systematic verification of the counting and tabulation process during the day of the election and referendum.

The country for the first time has provided the PVT programmed to project the latest technology and methodologist to be used in the just concluded referendum.

“ELOG has successfully conducted this exercise receiving high level of reports from the observers who have been deployed to a nationally representative sample of polling station a cross the country”. Said Masime.

He said that the ELOG observers had reported that the majority of the polling station opened on time and almost 69 percent of polling station for both ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ referendum agents were represented.

He appealed to Kenyans to accept the result in constructive manner to remain calm and to provide the Interim Independent Election Commission with the space to finalize the tallying process.

ELOG provides Kenyans with a comprehensive picture of the final results once receiving all the data and information from the observers.
