A presidential candidate has expressed concern that the economy has taken a hit because of the ongoing political impasse.

Thirdway Alliance Party leader Ekuru Aukot said elections should be held on October 26 for the country to move forward and restore the economy.

“Let us vote on October 26 and begin work because politics cannot build Kenya,” said Dr Aukot while campaigning in Eastleigh and Ngara areas in Nairobi County yesterday.

“We need to stop this political bickering every year if we are to move forward as a country. There is too much uncertainty in the country because two individuals cannot agree,” he added.

JOINED RACE

Aukot noted that a camel, a symbol of his party, had joined the race to defeat the remaining horse.

He exuded confidence that he was the right man to right a history that has for the last 50 years favoured a few families.

“If we are to redeem Kenya we need a marathon, not a short sprint of two horses. We are tired of old politics, of tribalism and corruption, and the same politicians,” he reiterated.

He said the country was ready for a new crop of leaders, adding he was ready to face President Uhuru Kenyatta in the ballot this month and retire him from politics.

“On October 26 we have a chance to retire them. Even the son of a nomad can be president,” he told a charged crowd outside Ngara bus stop.

POLITICAL IMPASSE

He noted nurses, who have been on strike for the last six months, had been ignored as a result of the political impasse.

“Do you see any leaders talking about the nurses’ strike?

“All we are seeing are political solutions to a political problem. Why not a political solution to the nurses’ strike?” he posed.

The High Court recently ordered the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to include Aukot in the ballot for the presidential election re-run.

He had filed the case seeking to be included in the repeat poll after IEBC ruled that the election would only be a contest between President Kenyatta and National Super Alliance leader Raila Odinga.
