KACC detectives grill tycoon over Anglo Leasing

Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission officers questioned a business tycoon in connection with the Anglo Leasing scandal.

Deepak Kamani arrived at Integrity Centre, Nairobi at 10am and left minutes after 1pm.

He declined to speak to reporters who had camped outside the KACC offices before his aides whisked him into a waiting vehicle.

KACC has been investigating the mega-scam that cost Kenyans billions of shillings.

Kamani owned four main companies that were paid billions of shillings to supply security equipment, which were never delivered.

Government documents show Kamani owned Silverson Establishment, Forensic Laboratories Ltd, Anglo Leasing and Finance Ltd, and Infotalent. The money paid to the companies was, however, later returned to the Government. The contracts were for the supply of security-related equipment.

Kamani had refused to leave KACC offices after he noticed journalists waiting for him. Security and KACC officials had to prevail on Kamani to leave the premises after grilling.

"He had said he was ready to stay at the offices even up to late in the night to avoid the Press," said an official at the agency, who declined to be named.
