AP boss dispels claims of Force go-slow

By STANDARD REPORTER

Administration Police Commandant Kinuthia Mbugua has blamed mischief of a few officers for the perceived go-slow in the force.

Mr Mbugua said regular and AP officers were reporting to duty on time and performing functions effectively contrary to reports carried by a section of the media.

Mbugua assured Kenyans officers were going about their assignments without a hitch.

"We have, however, instructed provincial commandants to explain to officers the proposal in Justice Philip Ransley Report and how it would be implemented over three years." Mbugua said.

"Police officers should count themselves lucky. Teachers and civil servants have struggled for 20 years to have a staggered increment," The AP boss said.

Mbugua explained the officers enjoy a month risk allowance of Sh5,000 and there was commitment to honour other phases as recommended by the Ransley Report.

Referendum logistics

He added: "It is true the economy cannot support the massive rise from Sh11,000 minimum per constable to Sh34,000, but would accommodate it in three years."

Mbugua further said Kenya Police and AP have met under Police Commissioner Mathew Iteere to plan logistics for the August 4 referendum.

"We have jointly taken stock of the task at hand, the officers at our disposal, budget for fuel, mobilisation and deployment during the referendum," Mbugua said.

"The planning has been well co-ordinated and we had a test in the Matuga by-election, which was only blotted by a single violence incident in which a councillor was shot," he added.
